About  GYROTONIC® Methodology

 

The GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM® is an innovative approach that promotes and maintains health and wellbeing.  This exercise system consists of breathing patterns paired with simultaneous stretches and strengthening of muscles and tendons, as well as articulating and mobilizing the joints.  This modality increases coordination and endurance, enhances aerobic and cardiovascular activity, and promotes neuromuscular rejuvenation.

 

Discovered by renowned Polish dance, Juliu Horvath, the GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM® was the result of many years of intense study and self-exploration.  This distinctive and unique system delivers the same benefits that are received by yoga, dance, gymnastics, swimming, and tai chi.

 

Inspired by injuries he sustained during his dance career, Horvath embarked on a creative journey geared toward developing a system of exercise adaptable to anyone, regardless of age or present health.

 

The name “ GYROTONIC®” provides and overview of what Horvath aimed for with this exercise modality: the word “gyro” means spiral or circle and the word “tonic” means to tone or invigorate.  In essence the GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM® offers freedom of movement with its circular, spiraling, undulating  and free-flowing exercises.  The system consists of guided exercises on equipments developed by Horvath that when done regularly can offer the the body immense benefits which include:
